Should I report challenges that don't go through a formal challenge process?
Yes, you are encouraged to report any challenges to intellectual freedom issues (materials, privacy, etc.) whether or not they have been through a formal challenge process. This includes any challenges that may be occurring in schools outside the library.
Will my name, contact information, or library name be published?
No. We do not publish this information. However, if you choose to provide your contact information, we may contact you to provide further details regarding the incident, or to connect you with other libraries that may be experiencing the same challenges.
My library already submits this information to ALA’s Office of Intellectual Freedom (OIF). Do we have to fill out another form?
Yes, please. The information collected here is Maryland-specific. You are encouraged to submit this information to ALA's OIF as well, in order to help with national-level collection of this information.
The form and resources on this page are inspired by the work of the State Library of Oregon's Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse. Our thanks for their incredible work!
