Below are some places to look for current grant funding opportunities. At the end is a Powerpoint Presentation about how to search for and write grant applications in general.
Baltimore Community Foundation
Federal grants
If you sort by the date at Grants.gov, you will see that there are not many new grant opportunities related to libraries. Any public library systems in Maryland that want to apply for federal funds must have an active Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) registered and active on Sam.gov.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) offers grants to museums and libraries. Check out available IMLS grants by clicking on this link.
USDA - Rural Development
The United States Department of Agriculture has Community Facility low interest rate loans and grants available to public libraries in rural parts of Maryland.
This federal agency offers grants for a variety of programs that might be of interest to public libraries including:
Internet of Things National Training, Community-Based Reentry Programs, and Community-Based Programs addressing hate crimes.
Weinberg Foundation
For a public library to be eligible they would have to partner with a non-profit with a 501c3.
Gates Foundation
The Gates Foundation has become more like the MacArthur Awards in that the staff of the Gates Foundation identifies worthy grantees. So it’s more like the grants are awarded and not applied for…
Governor's Grant Office
The Governor's Grant Office does not grant awards. They act as a grant resource for current opportunities locally and nationally. Their site offers links and information for grant opportunities in Maryland.
The Robert Deutsch Foundation
This Baltimore-based Robert Deutsch Foundation nonprofit helped to fund the Enoch Pratt Free Library's Wash and Learn Program. According to a representative from the organization, the average grant amounts are from $5,000-$25,000.
Nathan Cummings Foundation
Grant amount: $50,000 to $250,000 for grants and $200,000 to $500,000 for program-related investments
NCF has an open call for funding proposals, or Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), from January 16, 2024 through April 30, 2024. We are offering two types of funding opportunities: grants and program-related investments (PRIs). Both grant and PRI proposals must align with NCF’s interconnected goals of racial justice, economic justice, and/or environmental justice. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. All applicants will be notified about the status of their application within eight weeks of submission.
